Production Lab at Movie Studios of Las Colinas

Goal: Film a 2-line scene in under 5 minutes, outside in 105 degree heat – including setting up the equipment from scratch, coming up with dialogue and blocking for the actors, manage a crew, work with the DP, and have a finished product…. all in 5 minutes or less.  Special thanks to the Muller Film and Television Education Foundation and Young Actors Studio for sponsoring this exciting lab!  More pictures below! (will be adding even more later) Behind the scenes video of the behind the scenes to follow after that!

The lab was split into two production teams. One large aspect of the process is being able to work as a team.

After each five minute production, the team members rotated job positions.

Rachel Dickson and Kasey Pace work together to set up the boom.

Meghan Gerlach (1st AC) sets up the tripod while Kelsey Pope (DP) waits. Gabby Fisher (Director) gives direction to Logan, Matt and Rachel.

Matt Frias (Director) works with Hailey Ortiz (DP) on his vision for his scene.

Gabby Fisher and Logan Rutherford (1st and 2nd AC) setup the tripod as Chris Velasquez (DP) waits to mount the camera.

Hugo Potts (DP) quickly sets up his shot with time running out.

Kristin Butler (grip) sets up a c-stand.

Kristin Butler (boom operator) and Taylor Vaughn (audio grip) follow Alayna Glasthal and Natasha Merlene (actors).

Michelle Mayes places a mark for the talent.

Kermel Yohannes quickly sets up a c-stand for diffusion.

Hard work will be rewarded with success! Bravo and brava to all the Teen Producers…

So much fun! Lots of hard work and intense learning, but totally worth being out in that heat. Thanks Brad and Suzanne for allowing us to have hands on with all the equipment and for taking us out on location to film!

The Teen Producers (new and former members alike) had a BLAST filming on location at the Las Colinas Movie Studios. It was a great learning experience for all of them. Hard work and dedication pays off….All of the Teen Producers realized that working behind the scenes is not as easy as it looks or as easy as the Staff at DYAS makes it look.

Everyone had a great time and they could not stop talking about how “Cool” it was to actually be filming on location!!

Trivia: Justin Muller, owner of Muller Entertainment which is a multifaceted production company exclusively managing The Studios at Las Colinas was a former student of the Dallas Young Actors Studio.
