Alright, so it’s Thursday – Rising Stars #2 is almost over! Right now, I am sitting on the black couch in the editing room, eating pretzels (they aren’t nearly as enjoyable as Linda’s brownies yesterday).
Maddie is busy digitizing the student productions from this morning. We had to re-film the two scenes after Brad came into the studio and played back the footage from before. But Elise, Jane Marie, and Marco all did a wonderful job! I would say that I did a good job well, but as with everyone, I am my biggest critic and unfortunately I tend to only see my flaws! We all tried to add alot more variation and complexity to the scenes, as if we were in Showcase. It’s really important to not lose all of our reactions once the camera is rolling.
Once Maddie is finished importing all of the video, Elise and I will get to edit our own Student Productions which is good because I get experience working on Final Cut Pro, but bad because I get the amazing honor of watching myself over and over again (why is it so hard to see yourself on film?). Editing: it’s a love-hate relationship

Well hello! Reyn here. So this week at Rising Stars Camp #1 has been pretty crazy! All of the cast is working really hard on their sitcom and I think it’s going to be really funny! Poor Marco is surrounded by girls and doesn’t stand a chance! (Actually he is a pretty lucky guy if you ask me). This week I am an intern, along with Elise, Danielle, Maddie, and Hailey. It’s really exciting because there are about a million things to learn.
So let’s see here. Earlier this week we filmed the Student Productions in Studio B, and everyone was doing a job they hadn’t done before. Danielle and I were taking turns taking pictures with the still camera. I really love doing that because I just bought my new camera and I’m definitely still learning so it’s always good to practice. Maddie was shadowing Christine as Script Supervisor! She had to log every take and give the cast members each line before they were expected to deliver them. Danielle worked as Script Supervisor during Movie Camp last week, which is a REALLY big deal! Elise and I were running around, turning off the air, moving lights and sandbags – you have to stay alert and ready because we move at such a fast pace when filming so that we can stay on schedule. I think for me the best part was when I got to watch Suzanne edit the drama scnes (Maddie says her favorite part was watching Suzanne demonstrate army push-ups).
It’s actually really amazing to see how everything is created. I know for all the interns, it feels good to fell as though we are expanding our horizon of knowledge. All of us have decided that the more we learn, the more we realize that this is the kind of work we really want to spend our lives doing. And everyday we learn more!
It’s just a “really great environment with people that I love and people that are passionate about what they do,” says Danielle.
We have all spent alot of time in the office as well, learning about the business side of the studio. There is so much tot her entertainment industry than just filming – you have to stay on top of the press and publicity. Without marketing and creating connections, filming wouldn’t be possible. However, the most exciting part of the week, for me at least, was the actual production of the sitcom. I got to be on one of the sitcom cameras! That so fun for me because it’s really similar to the still camera – you are creating and portraying an image for the audience and you can almost depict how they will perceive your work! Anyways, the camp was great, the week was busy, and we will all be back again next week for more!
